Nodules in the skin (tophi)
Another common sign that gout is becoming worse is nodules in the skin, which are commonly called tophi or gouty tophus. These usually appear when high levels of uric acid are sustained for a very long time. They are uric acid crystal deposits that build up in the skin, looking like yellowish or whitish nodules, usually appearing under the skin of your articulations. Additionally, these nodules may start oozing a white substance, causing chronic pain and add up to the mobility issues. They eventually contribute to destroying your articulation if you don’t look for medical advice.
