The cervix is a very special structure with a tight opening that communicates the uterus with the vagina. It is located at the bottom of the vagina, and it may become susceptible in the event of cervical cancer. Thus, many patients report painful intercourse or vaginal bleeding during and after having sex. If you’re experiencing both symptoms for the first time, do not delay your diagnosis and ask your doctor, especially if you have not performed your first screening for cervical cancer. It is performed primarily in women over 25 years old, but every woman with an active sexual life is at risk of developing cervical cancer and should get regular screening tests.
