Esophageal perforation
If esophageal tumors cause perforation of the esophagus, this can lead to subcutaneous emphysema. In these cases, patients will have crepitus, which feels like air sacs moving under the skin. They are usually detected by palpation of the skin over the neck, chest and back. It can also lead to severe chest pain, pneumothorax, and pleural effusion.
