Types Of Psoriasis: Can You Have More Than One?

- Plaque psoriasis: The most common type – plaque psoriasis accounts for about 80% of all cases. It causes raised, red patches of skin covered with silvery-white scales. These red patches can appear anywhere on the body. However, they are commonly found on the elbows, knees, scalp, and lower back.
- Guttate psoriasis: It causes small, red, scaly spots to appear on the skin. It often develops suddenly, and is most commonly seen in children and young adults. It’s often triggered by a streptococcal infection.
- Inverse psoriasis: This type of psoriasis causes smooth, red patches of skin that are found in the folds of the skin, such as in the armpits, groin, or under the breasts.
- Pustular psoriasis: This type of psoriasis causes pus-filled blisters to appear on the skin. It can be localized to certain areas of the body, or it can be widespread.
- Erythrodermic psoriasis: The most severe form – erythrodermic psoriasis can be life-threatening. It causes widespread redness, swelling, and scaling of the skin, and can lead to dehydration, infection, and other complications.
