Blood in the stools
Also known as rectal bleeding (hematochezia is the medical term), it is another common symptom of liver failure. It is about the passage of blood from the anus. The colour of the blood in the stool may provide information about the origin of the bleeding. The colour of stool indicates the kind of problem. In the case of liver failures, slower bleeding from the esophagus, stomach, or duodenum will show as darker blood or even black.
As mentioned before, this type of bleeding tends to be slow or poorly insufficient to discolour the stool. Then the bleeding is considered “occult,” and will be detected if the person is pale or if blood tests reveal low blood hemoglobin or anemia.
