Symptoms of melanoma in the leptomeninges
The leptomeninges is a part of the outer lining of the central nervous system. When the melanoma lesion is located in the leptomeninges, patients display focal neurological symptoms such as weakness, sensory loss, loss of balance, or seizures, cranial nerve palsies, confusion, personality changes, or raised intracranial pressure which can cause headache and papilledema. The patient may also have mental status changes, hyperreflexia, positive Babinski sign, speech abnormalities, gait instability, ataxia, and nausea and vomiting. As you can see, there are many signs and symptoms, and they depend on the location and severity of the lesion.
