Focal symptoms
There can be weakness, numbness, progressive loss of function, and loss of sensation in different parts of the body, according to the location of the lesion. For example, if the tumor is near the cerebellopontine angle, it can cause numbness and weakness of the facial muscles, as well as mastication problems. Involvement of the cranial nerve number 12, called hypoglossal nerve when the meningioma is near the foramen magnum, can lead to atrophy of tongue. It can be unilateral or bilateral, depending on the extension and location of the tumor.
