Speech problems
Ulcerating lesions usually cause difficulty in opening and closing the mouth, and the problem can be as severe as to cause speech difficulties. Carcinoma of the tongue can cause a slurred speech because the patient cannot move the tongue and protrude it whenever he feels pain. The tumor can also cause ankyloglossia, which is the clinical name for the immobility of the tongue.
