Cold Sores Signs and Symptoms
Some common symptoms of cold sores:
- Small, painful, fluid-filled blisters that appear on or around the lips, mouth, nose, or cheeks
- Tingling, itching, or burning sensation in the affected area before the blister appears
- Swelling, redness, and inflammation in the affected area
- Fever, headache, and muscle aches may occur in some people
- The blisters may burst, ooze, and form a crust before healing
- The area around the blister may be tender and painful
- Cold sores may recur in the same area or a different area of the face
- Some people may experience a general feeling of malaise or fatigue
