All over the course of the disease, patients with diabetes would have constant weight changes. Diabetes is associated with overweight and obesity in the early stage because it is overweight which usually leads to insulin resistance, and this condition is the one that forces the pancreatic cells to work double and wear down into type 2 diabetes.
However, diabetes has the opposite effect on people’s weight. People with diabetes have impaired metabolism of energy, and this affects the fat cells as well. Since the entry of glucose into fat cells is severely reduced, the synthesis of fat for storage is lower than before, and patients would reduce their weight progressively as the disease continues, and especially when there’s an incorrect control of the disease.
