Hemorrhagic episodes
Patients may have hematemesis, melena, or hematochezia. They appear in hemorrhagic gastritis, either acute or chronic. Hematemesis is vomiting out blood. Hematochezia is active bleeding in the rectum. Melena is associated with upper gastrointestinal bleeding and appears as a black colored stool. Black color is due to a mixture of gastric acid with the blood.
