Shortness of breath
One of the most common symptoms reported by patients with hypertension is shortness of breath or the sensation that they should breathe more heavily. This is one of the concerning signs that leads them to the emergency room, usually accompanied by a headache, chest pain, anxiety, and others. Thus, shortness of breath should not be seen as an isolated symptom from the respiratory tract. Instead, it is part of the distress patients with a hypertensive crisis feel when their blood pressure readings increase.
