2Feelings of worthlessness
Patients with depression often feel overwhelmed with feelings of worthlessness and excessive guilt over their own mistakes. They are very sensitive to criticism, often feel discouraged and regularly feed their own frustration with any negative event or outcome occurring around them. They are lacking in confidence and constantly feel disappointed about themselves.
All of these emotional states should be differentiated from feeling sad, and sometimes patients may feel completely worthless and unhappy with themselves without really experiencing sadness or feeling miserable.
