Understanding The Different Types Of Skin Tags
There are several types of skin tags:
- Acrochordons: These are the most common type of skin tag. They are small, soft, and flesh-colored, and typically found in areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing, such as the neck, armpits, and groin.
- Fibro epithelial polyps: These are similar to acrochordons, but tend to be longer and thinner. They can also be more pigmented and may have a rougher texture.
- Juvenile fibromatosis: This type of skin tag is typically found in children and adolescents. They are firm, flesh-colored growths that can appear on the trunk, arms, and legs.
- Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome: This is a rare genetic disorder that can cause multiple skin tags, as well as other types of growths and tumors.
- Spitz nevi: These are uncommon skin tags that can resemble moles or melanomas. They are usually pigmented and can be raised or flat. They may also bleed or itch.
